Tuscany Photography Workshop - Golden Hills and Timeless Beauty
Discover one of Europe's most beloved photography destinations, where golden rolling hills stretch endlessly beneath medieval towns and cypress-lined roads create perfect leading lines through the landscape. Tuscany's timeless beauty offers an extraordinary canvas for capturing the essence of rural Italian splendour.
September's Golden Hour Magic
Experience Tuscany at its most vibrant during September's golden season, when recently harvested fields glow with warm amber hues and the weather provides perfect conditions for extended photography sessions. This quieter autumn period offers a more peaceful and intimate experience compared to the busier spring months, while still delivering the magical morning mists that fill valley floors at sunrise.
Iconic Tuscan Photography
Capture the quintessential elements that define Tuscany's photographic appeal: solitary chapels positioned perfectly on hilltops, medieval walled towns perched on ancient foundations, and the famous cypress tree-lined roads that wind through undulating landscapes. Document the geometric patterns of freshly harvested vineyards and the soft, romantic light that bathes the rolling hills during golden hour.
Watch as morning mist drifts through valleys, creating ethereal layers that add depth and mystery to your compositions. As evening approaches, witness the warm glow of sunset transforming the golden autumn landscape into a photographer's paradise.
Luxury Base in the Heart of Tuscany
Experience five nights of comfort at the idyllically positioned Hotel Casanova, nestled within olive and cypress groves in the heart of San Quirico d'Orcia. This exceptional location offers unrivaled valley views from the terrace and features an in-house restaurant, bar-café, and comprehensive spa facilities including a heated pool with hydro-massage features and Finnish sauna.
The hotel's strategic location minimizes travel time while maximizing photography opportunities, and places you within walking distance of charming local restaurants where you can savour authentic Tuscan cuisine after days spent capturing the region's timeless beauty.
Join us for an unforgettable journey through Tuscany's golden landscapes, where every sunrise and sunset reveals new possibilities for creating images that capture the soul of rural Italy.

Alistair How
Alistair’s passion for photography and the outdoors has been a lifelong thread, beginning with his early career at Kodak after studying Geography at Southampton University. After many years capturing personal and family memories, he returned to more dedicated photography once he had more time to focus on his craft. His commitment and growing expertise were recognised in September 2022 when he achieved his Licentiate distinction with the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS), followed by serving as President of the Harrogate Photographic Society for the 2023/24 season.
His work has been showcased by organisations such as the Yorkshire Photographic Union and featured in publications including Outdoor Magazine and the Royal Photographic Society’s journal. These highlights reflect his ability to blend technical skill with an eye for atmosphere, storytelling, and the subtle character of the landscapes he explores.
Based in North Yorkshire, Alistair is surrounded by some of the UK’s finest scenery, and he makes the most of every season and weather condition to capture the region at its best. He takes great pleasure in sharing this passion with others, and for him, there is no greater reward than helping fellow photographers experience the joy of being outdoors and discovering the creative possibilities it offers.
We will be staying at the beautiful Hotel Casanova in the heart of San Quirico d'Orcia. This ensures that we are as close as possible to the locations that we will be photographing meaning less time spent travelling in the minibus.
You will each have your own double en-suite room. There is no single occupancy supplement charged.
The hotel also has unrivalled views of the valley from the terrace as well as a in-house restaurant, bar-cafe and a spa area that incorporates a large heated pool with 18 air-water jets, a hydro-massage whirlpool and a Finnish Sauna.
